How to actually make money with AI

You've heard it a hundred times. AI will save you ten hours a week. And maybe it will. But saving time never grew a business.

You can be brilliant at saving time and still not earn a dollar more than you did last year, because all you've done is get more efficient at running a business that isn't making enough money in the first place.

Making money with AI is a completely different thing, and it's the part I hardly ever hear talked about. It's also what I do all day. I build these systems into other people's businesses for a living, so none of this is theory. It's what I actually watch happen.

Spend less, or earn more

There are really two things you can do with AI, and the one I see people reach for first is using it to spend less. You automate the admin, you cut what you were paying someone to do, you save a few hours on your content. That's real, I do all of it and I build all of it, but it's the smaller half of the story. Saving has a floor. You can only cut your costs down so far, and then there's nothing left to cut.

Earning more has no floor and no ceiling. It's serving more people without adding more hours, or selling something you genuinely couldn't sell before, or plugging the money that leaks out of your business before you ever even see it. And that's the half that gets talked about the least.

Saving has a floor. Earning more has no floor, and no ceiling.

Get your expertise out of your own calendar

The biggest one is taking your expertise, the thing that lives inside your own head and your own calendar, and building it into something that can work without you sitting there. Before AI, the only way to sell what you know was to be in the room, one person and one hour at a time. Your diary is only so big, so your income was only ever going to be so big, no matter how good you were.

That's really what Nexus is, when it comes down to it. It's my own expertise built into something I can hand over. I spent years learning how to make AI actually work inside a business, and instead of selling that one call at a time, I turned it into systems I install for people. So what I know isn't trapped in my calendar anymore, it's out working in businesses I'm not even sitting inside.

The moment your expertise can work without you being there for every second of it, you stop being the bottleneck in your own business. And that's where the extra money comes from.

The offers you could never sell before

Then there's the money in things you could never have sold before, because they used to cost too much to deliver. A custom plan, a personalised setup, a proper done-for-you build. Lovely to offer, impossible to sell at a price anyone would actually pay, because your own hours ate all the profit.

That maths is different now. I build a system once, properly, and then I set it up for the next business and the next one without starting from scratch each time. The thing your clients always ask for but you could never offer them profitably, because it swallowed too many of your hours, is usually the exact thing AI can help you deliver now. It becomes an offer that simply didn't exist for you last year.

The money you're already losing

The one people almost never count as making money is often the biggest of the lot. It's the money you're already losing. A lot of businesses are leaking it without realising. Someone fills in a form at eleven at night and nobody answers until the morning, and by the morning they've booked someone else. A message comes in on a busy day and gets missed. A quote never gets chased.

None of it shows up as a loss anywhere, so nobody notices, but it was your money and it walked straight out the door. This is the main thing I build, and I call it the front office, because it does what a brilliant receptionist would do if you could afford one who never slept. It answers straight away at any hour, it catches the enquiry, it books the call, and it chases the quote you forgot about.

And it makes money rather than saves it, because you'd already paid to get those leads. You ran the ads, you made the content, you earned the referral. So every lead you were dropping was money you'd already spent to win and then lost at the very last step. Plug that leak and you earn more without finding a single new customer.

The one day

The way I sell this, and the one I point most people to first, is a single day. The client and I sit down together for one day and we build the core of their system in that day. Not a string of meetings dragged out over three months. One day where we get in a room, real or virtual, and actually build the thing.

People are surprised you can do that much in a day, but you can, and it's not because I'm fast. It's because I've already done the hard thinking a hundred times over. When we sit down I'm not working it out from scratch on their time, I'm pointing everything I've already learned straight at their business. If that's what you want, you can see the one day here.

You don't need my background

It'd be easy to hear all this and decide it only works because I'd built businesses before, that you're starting too far back to pull it off yourself. Running real businesses did help me, I'm not going to pretend it counted for nothing, because when I came to AI I already understood what actually matters inside a business, so I could see straight away where to point it.

But it's not the wall it sounds like. That head start wasn't something I was handed, it was time and attention, nothing more. I went all in on understanding this properly while most people were still deciding whether it was a fad. And that part is open to anyone. You don't need my past, you need to decide to actually learn this thing before everyone else catches up, and that door is still wide open.

It doesn't have to look like mine

It doesn't have to look like my business either. There's more than one door in. Some people have become the one who builds these systems for the businesses in their own town, the way I do, and they're doing really well, because there are businesses all around them that could use this and hardly anyone local is offering it yet. Others are using AI to do the creative work they used to pay someone else for, the content and the editing and the design, and selling that on. Some have taken a skill they already had and used AI to do ten times the volume, so they hold far more clients than they ever could alone.

The door isn't narrow, is the point. There are a lot of ways in, and most of them didn't exist three years ago, which is exactly why there's still so much room for the people who move now.

Where to start this week

You don't need any software to start. You just need to find the gap between your thinking and the doing of your thinking, because that gap is where the money's been hiding.

  • 1Write down the outcomes clients actually pay you for. Not the tasks. The results they get because of what you know.
  • 2Next to each one, split it. Which part actually needs you, and which part is just the doing of it?
  • 3Keep the part that needs you. Hand over the doing. That's the part AI can carry, and that's where it earns you money instead of just tidying up your week.

The honest bit

There's a whole industry that wants this to sound complicated, so it can charge you a fortune to do it for you. It's not that complicated. It's just not widely understood yet, and that gap, right now, is where the money is for the people who move early.

None of what I've described needs you to be techy, and none of it needs a forty-app stack. It needs you to know which part of your work only you can do, and to let AI carry the rest.

The tools I use to build all of this are in a free library I put together. It's the real stack, so it saves you testing forty tools to find the five that matter.

Stay ahead.

Julia

P.S. If you'd rather I just built the thing for you, that's what I do, and the one day is the fastest way in. Book a call and we'll find where the money's leaking in your business and what it'd take to plug it.
